Tiziano's pan and Alex's knuckle on a freezing cold ride round lake Como. I was on a 70's Electra Glide with very little brakes and Mike D was on a Sturgis. We ate at a place where they only cook fresh fish from the lake. It was a great day.

Davide's Wall Of Death: Pt 3

I don't know if any of you have been following Davide's Wall Of Death journey here on this blog? It's an amazing story so far although I'm not going to tell it again. Best go do a search of the blog and find the earlier posts, it's well worth it. So, here we are as of today. Davide has now managed to get all the pieces back to his home town in northern Italy after many road trips to Austria and back in a borrowed truck. He has been piecing part of the wall's history together too. It was built in Holland in 1940. The Dutch troupe then went on tour with it to Russia. After a show in Gorky Park the Russian army confiscated it at gun point and kicked the Dutch team out of the country. The Russian's trained some riders and the whole show went on the road again but this time behind the iron curtain, making appearances all over the 'mother' country of course, along with Cuba and Columbia (??) amongst others. Decades later it somehow reappeared in Austria where Davide found it. Back to Italy now and his dad knows a lot of people and managed to get a mate to hand over a sort of three sided building out the back of a factory where Davide could build the wall up and get some practice in. After some head scratching and studying of old photos, with the help of 3 really good friends, he got the main wall up. It still doesn't have the marquee top, stairs, 3 tired balcony etc fitted. Mainly because there is no space and of course he won't need it just for practice. The roof of the building leaked badly so he spent many a morning on his way to work fixing the holes with fibreglass and resin. Standing in the bottom of the wall is quite something. It's bloody huge. It's touching the roof for fucks sake. Standing in there looking around I realised one thing, there is no way in a million years you would get me riding a bike on those vertical walls, no bloody way. Anyway, our hero bought a cheap 100 Euro Cagiva dirt bike that he messed around with so it looks more the part for all those practice laps. Sometime very soon he will start going to the wall 3 times a week at 6am, get a few laps in, change his clothes and then head into Milan for work by 10. Along with Sundays as well he should be up and running in no time???!!! The 2 Indians are almost there. His plan is not to mess with the patina of the bikes and in fact the wall itself, at all. Just fresh motors and that's it. The magneto's arrived the other day so he is well on his way, money permitting of course. He hopes to do his first show in Italy in September and then go on the road proper next year. Amazing right?! this man is such an inspiration. Davide used to say to me at least once a day while I was staying there "Matt, you got to believe me when I say "Life is beautiful" fratello". You are so right my friend.

My brother has been in town for a few months making a movie called 7 psychopaths. I read some of the script and saw some dailies. Man this film is going to be fantastic. It's out later this year btw. Now my brother likes all things British but wanted a proper American car while he was here. The production company rented him a Nissan altima 'cos they are cheapskates. "what's this piece of shit!" was his reaction. After some discussion he managed to get them to stump up the extra cash for a hemi RT Challenger. He completely fell in love with it. He has to hand it back today. He is not a happy camper.

About 3 months ago Dean had this great idea about the two of us riding to work every Friday. Seeing as I was already riding to work a lot of the time I was like "Whatever". The first Friday all those months back his gas tank sprang a leak. Long story short. He now has it back repaired and repainted by the one and only master of all things he touches, Sonny Boy. We rode into today, we took the long route through Griffith Park and all that sort of thing. The weather is perfect. I like riding with Dean because he's my mate.

Now me and Dean very rarely disagree on anything. Except when it comes to Elvis and the Beatles. I reckon we have had far too much Elvis on this blog. I mean I like him and his music, sort of. I've bopped to one or two of his songs, I won't deny it. Dean says the Beatles were the death of rock n roll and all that sort of thing. Total nonsense of course. In fact Dean wants do a T shirt that says "Elvis is dead. The Beatles were shit. Dice magazine" but I won't let him. I'm not a big fan of the early Beatles stuff, not until around 1966. Tomorrow Never Knows is marvelous. A sign of what was to come, a song that defined and kicked off (along with Syd Barrett) the whole psychedelic movement of the latter part of the sixties. Which in turn spawned more great bands and then heavy rock and onto metal etc etc blah blah.

Man I had a bloody brilliant New Year. This was a highlight.
Punta Allen (officially Javier Rojo Gómez) is a small Mayan fishing village and the only land access is by a rough, I mean a mental potholed, 50 kilometre track.
The village has only about 4-5 blocks of sandy streets going inland from the sea and is only about 6-7 streets wide. There are 2 generators that run electricity to the village during two periods daily; 11am - 2pm and from 5pm - midnight. Bring a torch so you can find your way to the bathroom at night, without stepping on a scorpion, crab or any other creature of the night. The village has 4 mini markets, a frozen seafood store/house, a fresh seafood store/house, a produce store/house, a lobster co-op that makes ice. In fact Lobster is the main (only I reckon) source of income for Punta Allen. So we dined on a mountain of Lobster tails all for 500 pesos. So tasty it was too. There is a dock on the lagoon with a palapa roof. This is a good spot for watching the sunset and perhaps a feeding dolphin or crocodile. The area draws bone fishermen from all over the world who enjoy the saltwater flats and fly-fishing. We went out on a boat for the day. Good times.

For Sale: 1958-62 Early 283 Chevy Engine & TH350 trans. Ready To Run!

Complete early 283 Hi-Po Chevrolet V8 motor and TH350 trans.
This is a really good running motor and trans that is super smooth and tight and very fast.
The motor is a rare 1958-1962, High performance 315HP model.
It was purchased by the Kennedy brothers in Pomona, California about 4 years ago and was pulled from a local Deuce 5 window where it had been sitting since the 60's.
After being stripped and inspected and finding it was good condition low mileage engine the heads were rebuilt for good measure, full set of gaskets were installed as well as a new Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock carb, chrome alternator, starter, water pump, plugs, wires, distributor cap, points etc, before being painted orange. I have maybe done 600 miles since all this work done and it has never skipped a beat and does not leak or burn oil. it has great oil pressure, 40-45 when cold and 25-30 when hot. The trans was also a low mileage item and fitted with a new high stall converter, kick down linkage and an old chrome B&M shifter and it works great and shifts good.
The 4 barrel air cleaner is a rare old aluminum Nicson marine style unit. The headers are old modified tube style and were on this very coupe since 1964. The aluminum valve covers are vintage 60's finned Corvette. I even have the original cut down fan for the front pulley!
I have decided to put an early Cad motor and manual trans in my coupe so that is the reason this good running set up is up for grabs.
I will be pulling it all out as one thing, so this really is a bolt in a car and go deal!!
It's all still in my car so if you are interested you can check it out, hear it and ride in the car!
It is located in Hollywood, California is local pick up only.

Mean Fuckers Motorcycle Club cafe racer line up at the Brands Hatch "Festival of a Thousand Bikes" show.

What was great about this event was you got to ride 4 laps around the Brands Hatch race circuit. They put all the bikes in different categories throughout the day. I think we were in the 50's/60's custom class or something like that. There would be about 50 bikes out in each group with a marshal going around at about 60mph. You were not allowed to overtake the marshal under any circumstances. A parade really. So what the 4 us would do is all ride round at the back of the pack really slowly for the first 2 laps pretending the bikes were not running right. Then when we had built up almost a whole lap of empty track in front of us we would get on it and race each other flat out for the last 2 laps with all the track marshal's freaking out and waving flags at us to slowdown. We did this for 3 or 4 years. The only scary moment I had was one year when I was cranked right over on the Norton at the fast Clearways corner, hanging on for dear life feeling pretty pleased with my performance when Perry went around me on the outside! The last place I expected to see anyone, it frightened the life out of me, he was flying. He ended up on the grass just before Brabham straight and I felt for sure he was going down but he held it. He was and still is a great rider, really very good. The best out of all of us. Good times. Of course the ride home was a whole other race, if you know what I mean.

He then sent them over to Sonny to get painted, Sonny nailed it of course, then Gentry wrapped the painted buckles up and sent them to us as Christmas presents!!! what a top bloke Gentry is. I welled up when I opened the box.

We had a booth at a bike and plane show organised by Ahbe racer over at Chino Airport. I was well excited, I like planes, especially old ones. There were tons of them just sort of lying around. Later in the day hangers were opened and all the restored stuff was wheeled out and flown. Watching a Mustang fire up and taxi to the runway just 50 yards from where our booth was made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. This show has great potential. Look for another go around in the spring.

Victory Electric Tattoo is proud to announce the sequel to the fantastic chopper art show they originally put on 6 years ago called Psycledelic Tendencies. Saturday January 14th from 6-10 pm. On display will be work by about 50 artists/builders. Including vintage painted chopper tanks, new painted tanks by some of the best guys in the business, paintings, original cover art from some issues of DicE magazine, etc. There will be limited priority parking for bikes, so get there early, restaurants downstairs if you're hungry, and an after-party at The Starlight Room down the street. We got this friend Caleb Owens of Cro Customs, he builds great bikes. He is also a great artist. He drew this brilliant design up for us. We got together with 2 good friends and came up with this wickedly awesome limited edition poster for Yokohama. Its printed on super thick, super quality card and measures 19" high by 26 1/2" wide. You can hardly roll these bad boys up 'cos the card is so thick. Michael shot Max's knuckle at the 4Q headquarters and we did the rest. We only printed 100.
